Health and Safety policy
Movers Bayswater Health and Safety Policy
Movers Bayswater is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, customers and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. As a professional removals company, we recognise that our work involves manual handling, vehicle operations, working in varied environments and handling customers possessions. We take all reasonable steps to manage these risks and to comply with applicable health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
Policy Aims and Objectives
The objective of this Health and Safety Policy is to prevent injury, ill health, property damage and environmental harm arising from our removal and relocation services. We aim to achieve this by identifying hazards, assessing risks, implementing appropriate controls and continuously improving our health and safety performance.
Health and safety is an integral part of the way we plan and deliver moves for homes, offices and commercial premises. Everyone working for or with Movers Bayswater has a responsibility to follow this policy and to contribute to a safe working culture.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management at Movers Bayswater has overall responsibility for health and safety within the company. Management will provide leadership, resources and support to ensure this policy is implemented effectively, including the provision of safe equipment, vehicles and systems of work.
Management will ensure that:
Risks associated with removals activities are identified, evaluated and controlled as far as reasonably practicable. Safe working procedures for manual handling, packing, loading, unloading, driving and working on customer premises are developed, communicated and enforced. Employees are consulted on health and safety matters and encouraged to raise any concerns or suggestions for improvement. Health and safety performance is monitored regularly, with incidents, near misses and hazards investigated to prevent recurrence. This policy is reviewed periodically and updated when necessary to reflect changes in legislation, operations or best practice.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees, including removal operatives, drivers, supervisors and office staff, have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.
Employees are expected to:
Follow all safe systems of work, instructions and training provided by Movers Bayswater. Use equipment, vehicles, tools and personal protective equipment correctly and report any defects immediately. Cooperate with management in implementing this policy and participate in required training and safety briefings. Report accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions promptly so that corrective action can be taken. Behave responsibly on customer premises and in public areas, being mindful of trip hazards, restricted spaces and the presence of members of the public.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Movers Bayswater carries out risk assessments for typical removal activities and for specific jobs where particular risks are identified. These assessments consider hazards such as manual handling, working at height when loading vehicles, vehicle movements, use of lifting equipment and environmental conditions.
From these assessments, safe working practices are developed and communicated to staff. They include guidelines on planning routes, securing loads, safely lifting and carrying items, managing heavy or awkward objects, handling fragile or high value goods and working safely in stairwells, corridors and confined spaces.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Given the physical nature of removals work, manual handling is a key focus of our health and safety approach. Movers Bayswater provides appropriate training in lifting techniques, team handling, use of trolleys, dollies and other handling aids, and in recognising personal limits.
Where practical, mechanical aids or additional crew are used to reduce the risk of strain, sprain or injury. Items that are particularly heavy, bulky or difficult to manoeuvre are planned carefully, and staff are expected to stop and seek guidance if they believe a lift cannot be carried out safely.
Vehicles and Driving Safety
Our vehicles are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition and are subject to regular checks and servicing. Drivers are required to carry out basic pre-use inspections and report any defects. Loading and unloading are carried out in a manner that prevents falls, slips, trips and crush injuries, and loads are secured to prevent movement in transit.
Drivers must comply with road traffic legislation, drive responsibly and be alert to the risks that arise when operating in residential streets, busy commercial districts and shared access areas. Parking, reversing and manoeuvring are planned to minimise risks to pedestrians, customers and other road users.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
Our crews often work in homes, offices and shared buildings. We take reasonable steps to protect customers, their property and any other occupants or visitors during the move. This may include controlling access to work areas, managing trailing cables or packaging materials, and clearly communicating with customers about where work is being carried out.
Movers Bayswater aims to minimise disruption and avoid creating hazards, especially in communal areas such as corridors, stairs, entrances and loading bays that may be used by others.
Training, Information and Supervision
We provide our staff with information, instruction and training relevant to their roles. This includes induction training for new starters, job specific training for removal crews and drivers, and refresher training where required.
Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for overseeing work on site, ensuring that safety procedures are followed and intervening where unsafe practices are identified. Ongoing communication and toolbox talks are used to reinforce key safety messages and share lessons learned from incidents.
Accidents, Incidents and Continuous Improvement
All accidents, incidents and near misses are recorded and, where necessary, investigated to identify root causes and corrective actions. We use this information to improve our procedures, training and controls. Employees are encouraged to contribute to this process by reporting issues openly and constructively.
Movers Bayswater is committed to continuous improvement in health and safety. We review our performance, listen to feedback from staff and customers, and adapt our approach as our services and operating environments evolve.
Policy Review
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed periodically to ensure it remains relevant and effective for our removals operations. Any changes will be communicated to all employees and incorporated into our working practices. Compliance with this policy is a condition of working for or on behalf of Movers Bayswater.
